With live feeds on gay news and Hollywood gossip, we can all keep up with the latest 411.  We encourage gals to leave their questions or concerns in our Community Chat forum, and our gay guys to give their expert advice.

So what is it about the special bond between a straight girl and her gay BFF?

There’s something about the non-threatening male perspective that gay guys provide that appeals to our straight girlfriends. Surely one of the things that women get out of a friendship with a gay man is male companionship without the fear of betrayal or abandonment.  And likewise,  there’s a non-judgmental acceptance that our girlfriends give us that is hard to find anywhere else.

However, there may also be a scientific link.  A 2008 study published by the National Academy of Sciences revealed that gay men and straight women have similarly shaped brains: Both are symmetrical, whereas the straight male brain is asymmetrical; it is slightly larger on the right side (the same shape as the gay female brain). So, it’s possible that gay men think and see the world in a way that women can relate to; that might be another reason why women love gay men.

In recent years, movies and television shows geared toward women have idealized the gay male friend. Shows like Sex and the City, for example, seem to suggest that no woman’s circle of friends is complete without at least one good gay friend!   From Will and Grace to Marc and Amanda on Ugly Betty, the relationship between gals and their gay pals is gaining recognition.

There’s a particular kind of gay man with which most women are enamored by: They love the stylish, sarcastic and supportive guy; the gay man who looks good, listens to her and is loyal to a fault.

Plus,  Gay guys have valuable talents that girls rely on.  Just look at Nate Berkus and Oprah Winfrey, or Tyra Banks and Jay Manuel.  What gal wouldn’t want a friend who can  decorate their house and do their hair and makeup at the same time?  And you can bet Heidi Klum and Stacey London get a few fashion tips from their gay BFF’s Tim Gunn and Clinton Kelly.

Whatever we do together, we have lots of fun!  Gay guys are just a good time.  We’re funny, refreshingly frank about sex and we can dance.  So, let’s celebrate our unique friendships!  There are lots of ways you can participate.  Subscribe to My Gay Friend to get free e-mail updates.  Watch our free video hair and makeup tutorials.
